ITEC 1031 – Software Development Fundamentals

Course Overview

The class ITEC 1031 Software Development Fundamentals was the course that I just completed. It was designed to allow a beginner programmer to develop good programming style, logical thinking and problem solving skills. It also is used to help get into the basic mentality of a programmer, so that regardless of the programming eventually chosen, one would have a good basis in which to develop and build upon.

Course Reflection

This course was designed for people who don’t have any prior programming experience or math past normal high school math. Because I went to a Math and Engineering focused school, I did have prior experience with programming as well as a much higher level of Math than this course was designed for. Because of this, while the concepts and programming language were all new, I was able to grasp it rather easily compared to how the course should have gone. It was still incredibly valuable to go through this course, as I learned how to better program for object-oriented programming, as normally I have focused on procedural programming, and it took a while into this course before I really embraced the benefits of object-oriented programming. However, looking back, this has definitely been a valuable learning experience and I do plan on taking more programming courses to further my knowledge and flexibility
